Bad news for PlayStation players eager to hit the roads of Japan: Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 is officially delayed to 2027.
Playground Games confirmed the news on the Forza website, revealing the PlayStation version will now launch on January 26, 2027. The Xbox and PC versions, meanwhile, have been out since May 2026.
The delay isn’t a huge one, but it’s a delay nonetheless — and it comes with a few notable details.
Early Access (If You Pay Up)
As with most modern releases, there’s a Premium Edition that grants early access. Fork over £110 / $119.99 and you can start playing on January 21 — five days before the standard release.
That same day also marks the arrival of the game’s first paid expansion, which is included with the Premium Edition. Everyone else gets a free content update on January 21, though details on that remain scarce for now.
Performance Modes
The PS5 version will offer two modes, as revealed in the pre-order trailer:
· Quality Mode: 4K at 30FPS
· Performance Mode: 60FPS
Cross-platform play and cross-saves are supported, meaning you can race with friends on other platforms and carry your progress across devices. User-generated content — liveries, tuning setups, EventLab races — is also cross-platform, so PS5 players will have access to the community’s growing library at launch.
The Good News: The Game Is Excellent
If you’re on the fence about the wait, know that Forza Horizon 6 is genuinely fantastic. Eurogamer awarded it a perfect five stars, with Dom Peppiatt writing: “I think Horizon 6 is the highlight in a pantheon of already great racing experiences, and shows Playground Games as a developer at its peak… It’s taken 14 years to get here, but I think Forza Horizon 6 finally delivers on the promises the original game made, way back in October 2012”.
The game currently sits at a 92 on Metacritic, making it the highest-rated game of 2026 so far.
The Bottom Line
Yes, PS5 players have to wait a little longer. But given the game’s reception, the extra months might be worth it. And if you simply can’t wait, the Premium Edition’s early access on January 21 will let you jump in just a bit sooner.
