Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 Servers Taken Offline Due to “Server Issue”

FromSoftware has temporarily shut down online servers for both Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 across all platforms, citing an unspecified issue.

The world of Lordran just got a little lonelier.

FromSoftware announced earlier today that online servers for Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 have been temporarily taken offline on all platforms due to a “server issue” .

“Due to a server issue, the game servers for the following titles will be temporarily unavailable on all platforms.”

The studio hasn’t provided a timeline for restoration, only stating that updates will come “once we have information regarding the server restoration time” .

What This Means for Players

For the time being, all online functionality is unavailable in both games. That includes:

· PvP invasions — no more surprise attacks from red phantoms

· Summon signs — co-op is off the table

· In-game messages — no more “try finger, but hole” or warnings about illusory walls

· Bloodstains and ghosts — the haunting traces of other players are gone

The games remain playable offline, so your single-player journey through Drangleic or Lothric can continue. But the series’ signature sense of shared struggle — however chaotic — is on pause.

Not the First Time

This isn’t unfamiliar territory for the Dark Souls trilogy. In 2022, Bandai Namco took servers for all three Dark Souls games offline due to a security vulnerability affecting Dark Souls 3 . The third game went dark again a few months later for further maintenance.

The series has a long history of server instability, but the vague nature of this latest shutdown — no explanation of what the “issue” actually is — has some fans speculating about everything from technical failures to security concerns.

FromSoftware’s Rough Streak

The timing isn’t great for FromSoftware, which has had a string of recent setbacks.

The Duskbloods, the studio’s upcoming multiplayer-focused title featuring jetpacks, vampires, and a cute bird thing, saw its first network test taken offline early due to similarly vague “server issues” .

More recently, FromSoftware delayed The Duskbloods — a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive — into 2027:

“While development of The Duskbloods is at the final adjustment stage, we have made the decision to move the launch window to 2027. We apologise to players who have been kindly awaiting the release of this title and thank you for your patience and support.”

The Bottom Line

Dark Souls without online features is still Dark Souls — the combat, the exploration, the crushing difficulty are all intact. But the series’ unique brand of asynchronous multiplayer is part of what made it iconic. Those messages from strangers, the sudden invasion, the summon sign that appeared just when you needed it most — that’s the heartbeat of Lordran.

For now, that heartbeat is on pause. We’ll update this story as soon as FromSoftware provides a timeline for restoration.
